How To Say a Beginner In Korean?

This is how to say a beginner in Korean: 초짜 [cho-jja].

*Note that the word 초짜 itself is deviated slang from 초보 (chobo), which is the proper way to say a beginner.

Sample Sentences Using a Beginner in Korean

영진이는 이게임에서 완전 초짜야. [young-jin-ee-neun ee-gai-eem-eh-seo wan-jeon cho-jja-ya].

Young Jin is complete newbie in this game.

Note that the word 초짜 has been translated to newbie to support the context of the phrase.

휴… 이렇게 초짜같은 실수를 하다니 챙피하다.

Sigh… (I) feel ashamed of making this beginner’s mistake.

Note that in some Korean sentences, it is common to omit subjects such as I and you.

Some Other Words Containing the word

As you may have guessed, there are more than one way to how to say a beginner in Korean. If you are a devoted LOL (Leagues of Legends) user, you may have heard about the word 쪼렙 [jjo-rap] which represents a newbie in that game.

Also, when Korean people first get their driver’s license, it is pretty common to place a note at the back of the window, saying 초보운전 [cho-bo-woon-jeon].
